The 40th National Convention of Electronics & Telecommunication Engineers and National Conference themed “IoT and Sensor Embedded IoT: Driving Smart Connectivity” was inaugurated today at J.C. Bose University of Science and Technology, YMCA, Faridabad. The two-day event is being organised by the Faridabad Local Centre of The Institution of Engineers (India) in association with the University.

The inaugural session was presided over by Prof. Girish Shrikisan Mundada, FIE, Vice President, IEI. Chief Guest Prof. Rajive Kumar, Vice-Chancellor, J.C. Bose University of Science and Technology, YMCA, Faridabad, in his inspiring address, urged IEI to develop industry-relevant micro-credential courses in emerging technologies such as AI, IoT, Cybersecurity, 5G-6G, Robotics and Drone Technology.

Highlighting the immense potential of the Swayam Plus portal, he offered that all micro-credential courses developed and uploaded by IEI on Swayam Plus will be immediately adopted and offered by J.C. Bose University. He further assured full support of the university’s faculty expertise for the development of these courses, describing the initiative as a revolutionary step for Skill India, Atmanirbhar Bharat and the industrial ecosystem of Faridabad.

Guest of Honour Prof. Ashutosh Kumar Singh, Director, Indian Institute of Information Technology, Bhopal, delivering the prestigious Prof. S.K. Mitra Memorial Lecture, observed that India has emerged as a global leader in IT and allied sectors and is now closely competing with China in many areas. However, he pointed out that the country still lags significantly in high-quality research output, with far fewer publications in top-tier international journals compared to global peers. He strongly advocated a shift in academic mentorship, emphasising that faculty members must assign real-world, problem-solving research topics to students rather than leaving them to explore topics on their own, as this directed approach would lead to more meaningful, industry-relevant innovations and stronger research contributions.

Dr. Roger Kumar, Founder-Managing Director, CASE Group; and Er. Narang N. Kishore, Mentor & Principal Design Architect, Narnix Technolabs, New Delhi, also addressed the gathering and shared valuable insights on practical applications and future directions of IoT and smart connectivity.

A major highlight of the ceremony was the conferment of the prestigious Life Time Achievement Award upon Prof. (Dr.) Tara Singh Kamal, Er. L.K.M. Adhi and Dr. Roger Kumar, and the IEI Young Engineers Award upon Ms. Swati Kumari, Senior Technical Officer, CSIR-National Physical Laboratory, New Delhi.

The session commenced with a welcome address by Er. Inderdeep Singh Oberoi, FIE, Chairman, IEI Faridabad Local Centre, followed by lamp lighting and felicitation of dignitaries. The conference souvenir was released, and special invitees were honoured. Prof. Munish Vashishath, FIE, Organising Secretary, delivered the vote of thanks. The proceedings were gracefully moderated by Dr. Neetu Gupta and Dr. Sonam Khattar.

Post-inauguration, Er. Narang N. Kishore delivered the State-of-the-Art Lecture, followed by the Prof. S.K. Mitra Memorial Lecture by Prof. Ashutosh Kumar Singh. The day continued with four technical sessions, a poster presentation session and a highly engaging student project competition.

Tomorrow, 04 December, will feature a plenary keynote by Brig. Adarsh Bhardwaj (Retd.), Executive Director, Azista Industries Pvt. Ltd., a panel discussion on the future of Electronics & Telecommunication Engineering, an online technical session and the valedictory function.
